COVID-19 Update: Governor Orders Schools Closed for Remainder of Year

Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order to officially close Michigan schools for the remainder of the school year due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19. This means that BCPS schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. We don’t yet know if or how this will impact the start date of the 2020-21 school year.

COVID-19: What We Know Right Now

Right now, Michigan schools will be closed until April 13, 2020, following the governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order earlier this week. The decision about when schools will reopen will be made by state education leaders and the Michigan State Legislature. We are waiting to hear whether this closure will be extended beyond April 13. COVID-19 Update: State Legislature Action Still Needed to Waive State Standardized Testing and School Time Mandates

BCPS urges the Michigan State Legislature to take immediate action to excuse the state’s schools and students from the restrictive laws that require state test scores. It would be an undue burden on students to come back from this stressful disruption to their education and then have to go straight into standardized testing.

COVID-19 Meal Pickup Update: Dates Extended, New Location Added

Meal distributions will continue as scheduled through Friday, April 3. For the week of April 6-10, meals will be distributed on Monday, April 6 only. Meal packs distributed on April 6 will contain five days of breakfasts and lunches for each student, so they will be covered through Friday, April 10. Do not miss this special pickup!
