Students under the age of 18 years old are required by the State of Michigan to apply for a
Work Permit to be employed. Work Permit applications for Battle Creek Public School students
are available in the Student Services Office located on the 2nd floor in the Battle Creek Public
Schools Administration Building (Willard Library location) after school until 4:30 PM
Work Permit applications are specific to a job so it is important that the student search
for, apply for a job, and be selected for employment prior to coming to Student Services to
get the Work Permit application.
The Work Permit application process has three distinct steps:
1. Student information - completed by the student
2. Employer information - completed by the employer
3. School District endorsement - to complete this step, student needs to bring the completed work
permit and an official document that states the name and birth date of the student applying for the
work permit this may be a Birth Certificate, or a State issued identification card, or driver's license,
or learners permit
