Parent University

Thank you for being a Bearcat parent! We offer parents and caregivers skills and materials to empower your children and help them thrive.

What is Parent University?

Parent University is an opportunity for parents to obtain knowledge and skills, both in-person and online, that will empower them to support their scholars’ success and develop personally. Courses will be offered at sites throughout Battle Creek to ensure ease of access for our BCPS family. Complete more courses to receive additional certifications and rewards. Information on 2020 courses and dates is coming soon.

Each level of participation comes with its own certificates, rewards and incentives:

  • Register and attend one to two classes and become an Informed Bearcat.
  • Participation in three to five courses makes you an Engaged Bearcat.
  • Successful completion of six to eight sessions makes you and Empowered Bearcat
  • Nine or more sessions awards you all the benefits associated with being a Bearcat Power Parent.

Parent University strands include

Strand I

Parenting Awareness aims at providing parents the knowledge to raise confident, educated, and emotionally intelligent children.

Strand II

Helping Your Child Learn in the 21st Century explores how to support your scholar’s academic opportunities and challenges with regard to preparing them for industries that do not yet exist.

Strand III

Health and Wellness investigates activities to help families build healthy physical and emotional lifestyles.

Strand IV

Personal Growth and Development examines support for parents on their journey to growth personally and professionally, in order to become the most effective advocate for their scholar.

Strand I: Parenting Awareness

This strand aims to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to raise confident, educated, and emotionally intelligent children. Join a community of empowered parents and caregivers working to provide the best environment for student success. This is also an awesome opportunity to learn about district initiatives.We will offer three sessions in 2020:

  • Session I: Pathways to Success: Burmese-American Family Empowerment Course
  • Session II: Strengthening Families Program
  • Session III: Strong Families/Healthy Relationships

Strand II: Helping Your Child Learn in the 21st Century

BCPS partnered with GreatSchools to help parents understand grade-level expectations in grades K-12. Watch the following videos to learn what success looks like in reading, writing and math, as well as real-world and academic skills for high school students. Choose a grade and subject below to get started.
