COVID-19 | Buildings Closed Beginning 3/19, Meal Pickups Continue

Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recommendations from the state, we wanted to inform you that beginning tomorrow, March 19th all BCPS buildings and offices will be closed to the public until Monday, April 13th. Meal pickups will continue being offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays now through April 3 at locations throughout our community, but building access will not be available to the public.

As you are all aware, beginning today, BCPS schools are on state-mandated closure until April 6. From March 17 – April 3, we will be distributing free breakfast and lunch for all children under 18 years old and any person with special needs under age 26. The first meal pickup window is TUESDAY, MARCH 17. The remainder of pickups will occur Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Schools are currently scheduled to be closed for spring break April 6–10. As of now, it is planned for school to remain closed the week of April 6–10, but this may change. We are planning to provide meals for students during closure at each elementary building, BCCHS, and several locations throughout the community, with the understanding that school breakfasts and lunches are very important sources of nutrition for many of our families.

On Thursday evening Governor Whitmer announced mandated statewide school closures, beginning Monday, March 16, through April 5. Stay tuned later today and over the next several days for more updates about school closures, reopening dates, meal service, and other details. At Battle Creek Public Schools, the health of our students is a top priority. While there are currently no reported cases in our county, we have been working closely with our local health department as it relates to COVID-19, following their recommendations to help prevent and plan proactively.
