Chromebook Pickups for Virtual Academy, Middle School & High School Students

We were thrilled to announce the recent approval of a $1.5 million technology investment that means every BCPS student will have access to a Chromebook this year, and at no cost to our families. Next week, we will begin handing out brand new devices, beginning with those who do not yet have one at home and will need it for online learning.

BCPS 2020 Reopening Plan Approved

The BCPS Board of Education voted to approve the district’s proposed reopening plan. If Michigan remains in stage 4 of the virus, BCPS will open for in-person instruction for grades K-5 and remote learning for grades 6-12 for at least the first nine weeks of school. Regardless of which phase of virus recovery Michigan is in, a Virtual Academy option will be available for families who would like their children to attend school remotely for at least the entire fist semester of the school year.

Monday evening, BCPS leaders presented our draft plan to the board of education. We believe this plan represents the best possible balance between ensuring that our students can continue to learn and minimizing the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Back to School Planning Update: Governor Whitmer Announcement 7/1/2020

Yesterday Governor Whitmer released state guidelines to help Michigan schools create reopening plans for the fall. The governor’s executive order requires all districts to plan for a variety of scenarios depending on the status of the pandemic when school begins. We are in the process of putting together a more detailed plan for next school year, in collaboration with teachers, staff and administrators across the district and will be seeking input from families over the next few weeks.
