A New Chapter for W.K. Prep
As summer break approaches, we are excited to finish the school year strong – and to share an important update for the fall.
Beginning next school year, W.K. Kellogg Preparatory High School will move into the Battle Creek Central High School building. This transition is part of a larger reimagining of W.K. Prep, designed to give students access to resources available at Battle Creek Central, while maintaining the unique, student-centered approach that defines W.K. Prep.
This restructuring is not about closing a school—it’s about opening more doors for students. We are committed to restructuring the program in a way that truly meets the needs of our young people, one that is grounded in support, flexibility, and high expectations. By bringing together staff and student voices to help shape the design, we’re ensuring that the new model reflects the lived experiences of those it’s meant to serve. Our students deserve nothing less than a pathway that leads to real opportunity and long-term success.
At W.K. Prep, students will continue to benefit from a close-knit atmosphere with strong academic and social-emotional support. They continue to receive individualized attention from staff who are deeply committed to helping each student succeed at their own pace. All of the unique offerings that make W.K. Prep special will remain.
W.K. Prep offers:
A flexible, student-centered learning pace
Small class sizes offered in both morning and evening sessions
A personalized graduation plan for each students
Individualized support systems
Counseling and more
We will continue to communicate throughout the transition and welcome your input and ideas along the way. We will be reaching out in the near future to students and families with an invite to a community info session and will share more details then, so stay tuned!
If you have any questions about your student or W.K. Prep for the next school year, please look at our FAQ or contact the Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education, Coweta Smith at csmith2@battle-creek-k12.mi.us.
We look forward to continuing to offer students and families a one-of-a-kind alternative option for high school that meets people where they are.
