3/5/2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear BCPS Families,

At Battle Creek Public Schools, the health of our students is a top priority. Many have been asking about prevention and safety related to the Coronavirus Disease 2019, or COVID-19 that has been in the news recently.

First, it is important to note there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, but residents are still being urged by the Governor’s office to take all necessary precautions to prepare and keep themselves and their families safe. According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the risk of an outbreak is low, but the State is still making preparations to limit the spread and impact of COVID-19.

Rest assured, Battle Creek Public Schools continues to work closely with and follow guidance from the Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the best prevention methods for COVID-19, and any other virus such as the cold or flu, are to:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • If you are sick, please stay home and avoid contact with others.

For any questions, contact CCPHD at (269) 781-0700 or PublicHealth@calhouncountymi.gov. For continued coronavirus updates, visit www.calhouncountymi.gov/publichealth or www.facebook.com/CCPublicHealthDepartment.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure the wellness of our school community.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Carter, Superintendent
