The Carson Scholars Fund aims to recognize and reward students in grades 4-11 who earn the highest level of academic achievement, and also display strong humanitarian qualities. Winners are designated as “Carson Scholars” and receive $1,000 scholarship awards that are invested for college.
To qualify for nomination as a Carson Scholars Fund applicant, a student must have a grade point average of 3.75 or above on a 4.0 scale in English, Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages (where applicable).
Students in each building that meets these qualifications have been selected to complete an essay. The qualifying essays will be sent to the Carson Scholars Fund’s headquarters for judging and we will know who the winners are in April.
Battle Creek Public Schools is the only district in Michigan participating in this prestigious scholarship fund. We congratulate all students who have submitted entries for this award.
The Carson Scholars Reception honoring the recipients of the scholarship will be held at Battle Creek Central High Schools’ new gymnasium, Battle Creek, Michigan on Friday, April 20, 2012.
The Carson Scholars Fund, Inc. was founded in 1994 by world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson, M.D. and his wife Candy. This non-profit organization was created to help children stay competitive in Science, Math, and Technology as well as to balance academic achievement with the high esteem our society gives to sports and entertainment.
