Summer Opportunities


The Art & Science of Medicine Kalamazoo College operates a two-week program for 10th-12th Graders thinking about careers in medicine. There is no cost for participation. The application deadline is February 28. Telephone (616) 337-7162 Internet site: http://www.kzoo.edu/hhmi/


The World Scholar-Athlete Games are hosted by University of Rhode Island. This is a one-week event for scholar-athletes or scholar-artists in 9th-12th grades (ages 15-19). The United States Military Academy West Point program for summer leaders seminar is a one-week program for qualified Juniors. Programs are held at West Point in New York. Applications are due by April 1. Telephone: (845) 938-4041. Web link: http://forms.admissions.usma.edu/AL

The Michigan Freedom Academy summer program is open to sophomores and juniors. "The mission of the Freedom Academy is to instill, promote, and sharpen a delegate's basic value and appreciation for human freedoms as promulgated by the Constitution of the United States and the state of Michigan, and to encourage the pursuit and assumption of leadership roles by promising young adults, as a means of assuring the survival and success of these ideals." The Telluride Association Program hosted at The University of Michigan, University of Texas, Washington University and Cornell University run six week programs for High School Juniors that focus on developing scholarship. Michigan Boys/Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion and hosted at Michigan State University each summer to provide educational experiences to high school students who will be seniors the next year. The Joyce Ivy Foundation was established to promote the expansion of new and broader academic experiences for young women. As a non-profit organization, The Joyce Ivy Foundation is dedicated to the academic advancement of young women in the Midwest.
