STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Battle Creek Central is proud of its heritage as an institution of learning. We feel we have an academic program that is as fine as any in the state. However, we feel that a good education involves much more than class work. In order to aid students to become well-rounded individuals, we encourage every Bearcat to join at least one club available in BEARCAT COUNTRY. A short description of the clubs and other information follows:

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY - membership in this chapter is based upon scholarship, service, and character. Students elect officers, visit art exhibits, and develop community service projects.
Contact: T.B.A.

BAND FOLLIES - serves as a way to unify the music department with the total student body, as Follies is open to all students. It is a professional quality all-school talent and variety show. Produced in January, it features vocal solo, groups, dance acts, and has it own jazz band and chorus line. Acts and performers are selected through competitive auditions held in the fall of each school year.
Contact: Mr. Tim Elliott, Band Follies Director, 965-9790, voice mail 2420 at Dudley Elementary School.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC - (The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band & Marching Band) is only open to experienced wind and percussion students. Auditions are required for placement in some groups.

DRAMA CLUB - stages the Fall Play and Spring Musical for the entire community. Any student interested in acting, singing, dancing, or technical backstage roles may audition. Fall Play tryouts are in late September and Spring Musical tryouts are in March.

VOCAL MUSIC, A CAPPELLA CHOIR - represents Battle Creek Central by promoting the appreciation of good vocal music to the public. Provides students the opportunity to further communication and presentation skills, as well as musical skill. Enhances the school systems’ image through performing many styles of music with a degree of excellence. Takes many trips to perform - open by audition to vocal music students.
Contact: Mr. Seth Gardner, Director, 965-9790 ext.2942. (voicemail — please leave a message and he will return your call.)

STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD - the purpose of the SAB will be (1) to meet as an advisory body on a regular basis with administration to discuss matters; (2) to promote better relationships between the students and the administration, the school and the community, and the students themselves; (3) to be responsible for student activities; (4) to provide the medium through which students may express themselves.
Contact: Maurice Ware, 965-9552 in the Grade Office.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY - The National Honor Society is an organization for high school students with high achievements in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The Battle Creek Central Chapter of NHS espouses and promotes these high standards of its candidates and current members. Any student with an accumulated grade point average of 3.25, or higher, is eligible to become a candidate for membership.

In addition to the string orchestra experience there is performance with full orchestra (addition of wind players)
