On Thursday,
September 27, 2001, Battle Creek Public Schools officials opened the first
of four Parent Centers to help parents help their children.
We recognize
the importance of home-school partnerships to school success. Research
has consistently shown the benefits
derived from parental involvement in their childrens education.
According
to the U.S. Department of Education, "Parents are their childrens
first and most influential teachers."

HOSTS Mentors, Principal for a Day,
WANTED:
HOSTS Mentors
(Helping One Student to Succeed)
About
146 new HOSTS volunteers are needed to act as mentors to elementary school
students.
HOSTS mentoring
program offers volunteers an excellent opportunity to make a positive
difference in the lives of young people.
Hours for
tutoring can be arranged during lunch or after work just as long
as you can commit to a half-hour block a week to assist students with
their academic work, organizational or study skills, or just providing
extra encouragement.
While the
work is not demanding, it can make a difference in the life of a student.

PTA
Join
the Parent-Teacher Association
If you have
a desire to work with a group of citizens whose goal is to improve the
quality and quantity of education, the PTA could be the perfect organization.
